Congratulations to Phill on his selection for the free entry to the 2012
Mesquite Amateur.
nice going Phill, next year as we check in to the skins game you can buy us a cocktail to toast your free entry.
I like David’s thinking, haha. Congrats Phil. STMF
I’ll go along with David.
George:
Skins game on Monday at Palms?
I think that is what I heard.
80MPH and wheels down
So how soon can we expect Registration to be open? May 28, 2012 is just around the corner. You know, maybe I should practice. Or do the unthinkable for me, take a lesson or 2, or 3, or 4. Might help. I doubt it. Think I’ll save my money for an Adult beverage or 2. Or 3. Or 4.
yes Monday at the Palms for the net game and sunday at Falcon Ridge for the gross game. we are also adding a new twist for golfers for the gross game on sunday. Stay tuned. Only 35 weeks to go. STMF
Won’t be doing the skins this year. Don’t plan on arriving until Monday Afternoon. See you at the party, or in the CasaBlanca before.
Twist I love twists George, are you goning to tell us or keep us hanging all winter long!!!
I want you to hang just for a bit. haha. Hey send me your new email. I will be opening the Doing it in the Desert website soon and want to invite everyone. STMF
George,
my new email is david.derango@gmail.com
Is Connestoga added to courses for next year?
Hey David,
That’s the same e-mail address I have for you.
Hope you are enjoying the JOTD’s that I have been sending you.
I hope so, we played it last year for the gross skins game and it was awesome. If we hadn’t had 50mph wind and 60 degree weather probably would of been better but great layout with its batch of make or break holes. STMF
Do not forget the 70mph gusts too, keep blowing me off the tee!!
Connestoga was awesome!! a killer course.
Yes Kerry nice JOTD’s!
Jim,
Yes Conestoga is in the rotation for the 2012 event. It will be a great addition to the tournament.
Christian
Oh yeah, better put me down for a 95!!!! or higher I love the course and it is killer.
thanks for the heads up Christian, something more to look forward to!!
better have a beer cart girl running around because we will need it!!!
Was very surprised when Christian called me personnaly to give me the good news. Hope to see all of you again next May.
Phil,
yes you will see me all things staying the same??
do not forget the cocktail at the CasaBlanca bar at the check in to George’s skins game!!
Congrats Phil,
That’s a great prise to win. Looking forward to the 2012 Mesquite AM. I am also planning on another Cigars Under the Stars event Weds. after dinner.
Rich – PHX., AZ
That is great Rich C. cannot wait for that too Cigars under the Stars is a great way to end the day.
take care.
David.
had a great time at Cigars under the Stars last year Rich. Count me in. Speaking of counting only 32 weeks to go. STMF
George,
In just over 4 weeks I will be in Vegas for the week of Thanksgiving and trying to get together with Christian for a round of golf on the 22nd or 23rd what does your schedule look like?? this would be great if we could pull this off!!!
David.
Still recouping from knee surgery. Don’t see me swinging a club for a while but thanks. G STMF
Glad you took care of that, I want to see you next year!!
My knee will not need surgery yet but the doc said a replacement is in my future, knee that is!?!?!?!? not happy about that!!!
rest easy my friend.
Christian,
Just saw on the local news that Arizona is trying to put a TOLL on I-15 thru the Arizona Strip, from St George to Mesquite. As much as I would like to see the St George courses returned to the Rotation, this sucks. But I am glad to hear that Conestoga made the cut for 2012. Let’s see: played Falcon Ridge, Coyote Springs, & Palms last year. Could be a possibility in my Rotation for 2012.
And Hey you all, don’t be afraid of Iam NoOne on FaceBook. I don’t bite. Hard
Kerry,
Yes it is being talked about but the process to get it approved has a long way to go. We hope that it does not come to fruition but we will cross that bridge when it comes. For right now there is not any plans to add the St. George courses in the rotation for 2012 unless our numbers increase…….which we hope they do
.
Christian
Christian,
how does your calander look for the 22nd or 23rd for a little golf??
let me know.
David
Well just thought I would remind everyone that its only 30 weeks till we are doing it in the Desert. Stay warm and have a nice holiday season. George STMF
30 weeks!!! Where has the time gone?? It seems just yesterday we were there in the heat playing golf. Having a few adult beverages and going for the skin!!
Now in Chicago the weather sucks and I will be luck to swing my clubs in the next 30 weeks!!! Well maybe not cause I will be in Vegas over the Thanksgiving week playing a little golf with my second set but it will be golf anyway.
Everybody and you George have a safe and great holiday, with a outstanding New Year.
David DeRango.
Hey, the Virgin River just announced on Face Book that the Chuck Wagon Restaurant has lowered the price of the Giant Ham & Eggs to $2.99, 24/7. Let’s hope that this is a permanent deal, and not just temporary. Anybody that has had it before, knows how big that Slab of Ham is.
David,
Almost had the wife talked into going to Mesquite for Thanksgiving. But the cost of Food, Bed, & Gas nixed that. Wendover, Nv here we come again. Where we get Food & Bed for free. and Gas is only $45.00 round trip.
MMMmmm!!! Ham and eggs $2.99, yes I have had that before and after I ate that I was good till dinner in the tent!!!
nothing better than that!!
I plan to play in the 2012 event. Could you keep
me informed of any pre-tournaments/skins games???
Thanks

David
Just saw that the Motor Trend International Auto Show will be in Las Vegas Thanksgiving Weekend. Have Fun.
Christian
How about starting a thread for the up & coming 2012 Mesquite Amateur.
Then we can stop this thread jacking of congratulating Phil on his free entry.
Kerry
Congrats to Phil
Love the event, the people, the courses, the volunteers and the evening events at dinner …. hate the Callaway Gift cards you can only use online. You can’t even use it at the Callaway Store in Las Vegas and they are Callaway; what a joke.
We should get cards for Dicks Sporting Goods, Sports Authority or Golf Discount Website cards, because if you are fortunate to win something and don’t use Callaway anything (and I and 80% of golfers don’t) you have to toss the card in the garbage or sell it on E-bay or Craigslist at a discounted price and go buy the brand of golf equipment you use.
Any gift card should also be used in a store physically or online. Ever try returning something online or buying shoes that don’t fit online?
Christian are you listening?
Happy Thanksgiving to All.
I live in the Tampa Bay area and summer at the Ga/NC/SC border town of Sky Valley, Ga.
I have a convention in Vegas May 22-24 and plan to stay thru the MA.
Jack,
We do look at all angles of the event and we are looking at the gift card situation. Callaway is a great sponsor and has done a lot to support the event and that should not be forgotten. We understand not everyone plays Callaway but there are a lot of options to purchase on their website. We will be looking at the gift cards to see how it can be a better fit.
Jack,
We are looking forward to having you at the event. I hope you enjoy the convention and then some great golf at the 2012 Mesquite Amateur.
I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving, I know I did!!
now I come home to Chicage and rain, wind and cold.
let play another round Christian!!!
Christian, the thing I like about you is you always respond and when you say you will look into something you do. I just think that a gift card from a nationwide sports store chain would be more reasonable and accessible to everyone including the variety of brand name products it opens us up to other than just Callaway. Yes, Callaway may be a wonderful sponsor, but if Dicks was approached with a guaranteed amount of money being sent their direction every year, how wonderful of a sponsor will they become also?
Hope everyone out there had a Happy Thanksgiving and will have a Very Merry Christmas!
I got to agree with Vegas Jack. I iunderstand Callaway loyalty but I think the nationwide sporting good stores give more of a option to our winners. Thanks for listening Christian. STMF
I think I have to agree with both of you!!!
not a bad thing to look at.
Can’t wait for the 2012 tourney, I finally get to move up off off the black tees where we never should have been in the first place. Howdy George, see ya soon.
well Kim I’m glad you get to move up but I hope that all of the 49 and unders play from the back tees next year. At least over 6500 yards. The tee boxes up are usually too short and take the driver and long irons out of everyone’s hands, I like to see you have to use all the clubs in your bag. Just my opinion. Hope your well. STMF
Nothing wrong with hitting something other than driver off of a tee box, especially if you want to play all the clubs in your bag from everywhere. Wait tell you get to be 65 with 6 bulging/ruptured discs in your lower back, then you will be glad you don’t have to play the tips. If you still play golf like I do with mine you don’t care where you play from;you are just glad to be there playing, especially in the Desert. Hope the knee dosen’t bother you from the back tees George.
You know, you are allowed 14 clubs in your bag. But most folks can score well just using 3 of them. your 5 iron, 9 iron or pitching wedge, & your Putter. Try it one time, you will be surprised.
